THE HISTORY
OF NEW FAITH FREE METHODIST CHURCH

New Faith Free Methodist Church carries a compelling history that commenced on July 28, 1998, when Reverend Curtiss L. Long, a passionate and visionary leader, founded the church in the vibrant city of St. Petersburg, Florida.

NEW FAITH FREE METHODIST

New Faith Free Methodist Church was formed at 3525-27th Avenue South, in the home of Lounell Brit and Mattie Gardner. From the Britt and Gardner home on July 28, 1990, with 30 people. The new members held a profound sense of anticipation and shared a desire to build a church that would foster spiritual growth, genuine community, and passionate worship. Reverend Long’s guidance and the enthusiasm of the founding members, New Faith Free Methodist Church was born. With initiative, foresight and God’s blessing, the Elim Seventh Day Adventist Church was made available at 80I-6th Avenue South. The church was truly grateful to Pastor Hains and the Elim Family for sharing their facility.

On the first Sunday in August, August 6, 1990, in the Elim Sanctuary, New Faith’s first public worship service was held. By the time of the completion of service of service, 100 people had become official members of the new and exciting adventure. Pastor Curtiss L. Long was installed on the fourth Sunday in November which attracted members from Holsey Temple CME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and relatives of the pastor from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

On February 12, 1993, New Faith purchased its first, and our present location, the Jordan Park Church of Christ. By spring of 1997, two additional lots and the annex had been purchased. Nine (9) years later, New Faith aggressively began pursuing the construction of a new building, as our Multi-Purpose Annex. In 2005, we saw our long awaited Multi-Purpose Annex built in honor of our Founding Matriarch, “Mama” Mattie Gardner come to fruition. We give God the glory!!!

Today, New Faith Free Methodist Church stands as a vibrant and dynamic community of faith in St. Petersburg, Florida. With its rich history of spiritual transformation, community impact, and devotion to Christian principles, the church remains committed to nurturing an environment where people can experience the love of God, grow in their faith, and make a positive difference in the world.
As the journey continues, New Faith Free Methodist Church embraces the future with hope, eager to impact lives, transform communities, and proclaim the Good News to all who seek a place of genuine faith, fellowship, and spiritual growth.
